In July 1964 Jack Lynch who was Minister for Industry and Commerce at the time came to Clonakilty to officially open the Festival of West Cork. He was photographed performing the official opening of the festival on Convent Road where a symbolic entrance to West Cork had been created. He was photographed with his wife Maureen outside Dunmore House Hotel. Maureen also presented prizes to winners in the child art competition.
