This is an 8mm colour cine reel of a vintage car rally which was held in Emmet Square in July 1964 as part of the Festival of West Cork. Presentation of prizes took place afterwards in the Emmet Hotel.

The video shown here is published with kind Permission of Declan Murphy, Clonakilty. He recently unearthed a few dusty reels of 8mm cine film he found in his parent’s house on the Western Road and had them digitised. This is one of them. He noticed Tony Bluett appears in the film for a few passing moments, armed with his trusty camera as he went about photographing the event. As it turns out those photos are already published on this website.

Thanks again to Declan’s family for recording the event and to Declan for going to the trouble of digitising the reel and letting it be shared here.

The cine reel brings Tony’s pictures to life and remind us Clonakilty in the 1960s was a colourful place!
